About

Hood Canal Adventures is an ecotourism company offering a variety of Biologist and Naturalist guided kayaking and educational forest adventures on the Eastern Olympic Peninsula and on the waters of the Hood Fjord.

Hood Canal Adventures was established by Fisheries and Marine Biologist Christina Maloney in 2008 as a small kayak rental business and has since grown to include a diverse variety of educational excursions and a nature themed gift shop.

Many tours are guided by the owner, however the company also employs a talented group of local outdoor enthusiasts, other Biologists, foraging experts, Naturalists and all around great people to help visitors discover, appreciate, and conserve all our outdoor paradise has to offer.  Meet our team below!

CHRISTINA MALONEY: Founder; President; Biologist; Guide

After a career as a Fisheries & Marine Biologist with, most notably, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and Biological Technician with the Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW), and the USGS Western Fisheries Research Center, Christina moved to Brinnon to create Hood Canal Adventures. Christina opened the small eco-tourism business to share her knowledge and passion for marine wildlife and to help others discover all the wild natural beauty that the Olympic Peninsula and the Hood Fjord have to offer.

CHANCE HORTON: Lead Kayaking Guide & Naturalist

Chance came to Hood Canal Adventures early on, and has been instrumental in designing tours, training staff, helping to develop the business, and of course sharing his knowledge of Hood Canal wildlife with our guests while guiding kayaking tours. His experience in the outdoors also includes backpacking the Appalachian Trail, river rafting, skydiving, and mountain biking throughout the western United States.

JERRY NOVAK: Plant & Mushroom Specialist / Tour Guide

Jerry is a Herpetologist who has worked with the Woodland Park Zoo and Washington State Fish & Wildlife, however his other life long passion besides turtles; snakes and salamanders, is foraging for native plants and mushrooms. Jerry’s knowledge and skill in identifying native plants and mushrooms is top notch.  But just as important, he knows the edibility; medicinal values; and practical uses of the hundreds, if not thousands of species that he knows well.

JILL BIDOCZKA: Kayaking Guide/Naturalist, Kayak Rental Attendant & Jill Of All Trades

In addition to guiding our kayaking tours on the Hood Canal, Jill has also worked as a Kayaking Guide and Naturalist in South East Alaska conducting glacier; wildlife; and whale watching tours, AND worked as a Dive Master, Boat Captain, and whale watching and snorkeling guide off the Hawaiian islands.

Hood Canal Adventures is registered as Kayak Brinnon, Inc. with the Secretary of Washington State as an S-Corporation and is a member of the North Hood Canal Chamber of Commerce.
