On our Duckabush Tour we paddle 3 ½ to 4 hours round trip to the Duckabush River and back. This route takes us to quiet rocky coves filled with marine invertebrates and then to a scenic beach for lunch before paddling through the Duckabush Estuary and into the lower Duckabush River. Our Marine Biologist Guide will teach you how to shuck oysters on the beach and discuss the marine and fresh water environments you’ll travel through, including the natural history of the Hood Canal and the biology of the animals we will see along the way. During crabbing season you can add a kayak crabbing experience to this tour to bring home your own Dungeness and Red Rock crab. If it’s hot we’ll take a swim in the warm waters of the Hood Canal, so don’t forget your suit!
We are sure to spot harbor seals, eagles, and perhaps river otters in addition to a variety of waterfowl. In the late summer and fall we may also see salmon migrating or spawning in the river.
